INDIVIDUAL ASSESSMENT

Nose surgery begins with anatomy, function and goals

Rhinoplasty is not a single standardized design. A consultation may consider facial proportions, nasal structure, breathing symptoms, skin and soft tissue, previous injections or surgery, and the changes a patient hopes to achieve.

Technique, materials, scarring, anesthesia, limitations and recovery differ by individual and require assessment by an appropriately qualified doctor.

RECOVERY & INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL

Rhinoplasty recovery: plan reviews before your flight

01

Before booking

Clarify whether this is a first operation or revision and whether breathing needs assessment. Ask how to share previous operative records, filler or implant history privately. Confirm the proposed doctor, hospital and what remains undecided until examination.

02

While in Shanghai

Confirm the planned reviews, care of any splint or dressings, and whether stitches need removal. Ask about additional care if a donor site is involved. Discharge and removal of a splint do not by themselves establish readiness to fly or a final appearance.

03

Before returning home

Take home the procedure and material records, aftercare instructions and review schedule. Confirm who to contact about changes during healing and where to obtain in-person care if needed. Remote photographs cannot replace an examination or urgent medical care.

There is no fixed stay or flying date for everyone. The treating doctor must confirm your review schedule and travel timing for the actual procedure and your recovery.

RISKS & INFORMED DECISIONS

Rhinoplasty risks beyond the appearance of the nose

Possible complications include infection, breathing difficulty, altered sensation, wound-healing or scar problems, persistent swelling and a result that does not meet expectations. A hole in the nasal septum is a rare complication. Further surgery may be needed; anesthesia has its own risks.

Ask which risks apply to the actual technique and any proposed graft or implant, how breathing will be assessed, and what review arrangements apply if healing or the result causes concern.

This is a general, non-exhaustive overview, not a personal risk estimate or a substitute for the surgeon's explanation and informed consent.

FAQ

Rhinoplasty in Shanghai

What is assessed during an Asian rhinoplasty consultation?

The doctor may assess facial proportions, nasal skin and soft tissue, structural support, breathing history, previous fillers or surgery, scars and the patient’s goals. The term Asian rhinoplasty does not define one standard design.

Can revision rhinoplasty be planned from photos?

No. Photos can help begin a conversation, but revision assessment requires medical history, available operative records and an in-person examination of structure, skin, scars, breathing and healing.

Does every rhinoplasty in China use rib cartilage?

No. Material and technique depend on anatomy, prior procedures, structural needs, risks and doctor assessment. Ask why any material is proposed and what alternatives and donor-site considerations apply.

How long should an international patient stay in Shanghai?

The required stay depends on the proposed procedure and follow-up plan. Confirm doctor availability, early review, travel restrictions and warning symptoms before booking non-refundable travel.

Are cosmetic nose reshaping and breathing assessment the same thing?

A rhinoplasty consultation may address appearance and nasal function, but they are not the same assessment. Describe breathing symptoms and previous treatment so the doctor can assess the cause and explain whether the proposed plan addresses it. A cosmetic change alone does not establish that a breathing problem will improve.
